Charles "Tom" Thomas AyersOctober 16, 1934 ~ September 2, 2017 (age 82)
Charles “Tom” Thomas Ayers, 82, of Green Mountain, went home to be with his Lord on September 2nd, 2017. He was surrounded by his best friend and loving family. Tom was the son of the late Crawford and Lou Mae Bailey Ayers. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Vernal, Hobert, Ott, Jerry, Jack and Boyd Ayers; and sisters: Tilda Bennett and Mary Lee Masters.
Tom was a loving husband of 65 years, a beloved father and a cherished grandfather/great grandfather.
He was a devoted Christian and a faithful servant of Covy Rock Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee, usher and prayer warrior. His greatest heart’s desire was to see the lost saved.
Tom was a proud farmer who was well known for his ability and love for working his horses. He took pride in the land God had blessed him with.
He retired from Unimin of Green Mountain after 32 years of service.
Tom is survived by his wife and best friend: Robbie; his son: Mike Ayers (Denean) of Asheville; his daughters: Janet Renfro (Keith) of Green Mountain, Rita Burleson (Lloyd) of Mars Hill and Lisa Whitehead (Mark) of Hampton, TN; his grandchildren: Angie Renfro, Christina Sparks (Stephen), Charles Fender (Amanda), Daniel Renfro (Brittany), Jason Ayers (Tiffany), Mandy Ayers, Tabatha Renfro, and Matthew and Megan Whitehead; his great grandchildren: Caleb, Anderson, Easton, Aiken, Mary Grace, Murphy, Carter and Colton; his brother: Floyd Ayers of Bakersville; and sisters: Marie Laws of Green Mountain and Betty Stump of Burnsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1PM Tuesday in Covy Rock Freewill Baptist Church. Revs. Marvin Hensley and Kevin Laws will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Monday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Hospice of the Blue Ridge for the care given during his sickness.
