Jim Ballew, 68, of South Toe, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, March 19, 2017, at his home. A native and lifelong resident of Yancey County, he was a son of the late David Samuel and Gertie Autrey Ballew, and grandson of the late Pink and Clara Ballew. Jim was the owner/operator of International Floral Greens for over 40 years, providing a source of livelihood for many families in the area. Jim was an avid hunter and surf fisherman. In his free time his greatest love was getting away with Makeda, family and friends, at the Outer Banks, his favorite place being, the Point at Buxton.
Surviving are his best friend and partner: Makeda Benain; son: Michael Eric Ballew and wife, Cindy, of Bakersville; daughter: Michelle Barham and husband, Jonathan, of Blue Rock; grandchildren; Jordan Ballew, Jacob Barham, Michaela Burrell and husband Josh, and Katelyn Barham; great-grandchildren: Ryleigh Burrell and McKenna Burrell; sister: Carolyn Carroll and husband Charles, of South Toe, and 2 nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 1PM Thursday, March 23, 2017, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Bo Seaton will officiate. Burial will be in the Autrey Cemetery at South Estatoe Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the funeral home.
