Jo Ann Buchanan Edge passed away in her home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 3, 2018. “Mama Jo’s” health had declined for the last several months from heart and lung disease. Her request to stay in her home was honored by her family and Burke Hospice & Palliative Care. October 16, 1934 was the beginning of her life, born in Mitchell County to the late Brown and Zola Buchanan and a sister to 3 siblings. Billie Jean B. Westerman of Tampa, Florida is her surviving sister. She was preceded in death by her brother: Jack Buchanan; and sister: Judy Leifeld.
Jo’s life story consists of meaningful journeys as a loving mother and wife of entrepreneurial husband, Jack L. Edge, Sr., together for 65 years of marriage. Of the many accomplishments that span the course of her life, highlights included serving as Girl Scout Leader, Youth Group Leader and sharing her intuitive knowledge of life that reached into the heart and soul of others and her family.
The loving family members who cherish her legacy are daughters: Pamela Edge, Vickie E. West (husband Jeff); and son: Jack Lee Edge Jr. (wife Rhonda). The heart and soul of Mama Jo’s life are her grandchildren: Amy Lee Edge, Justin Bigwitch Edge, Kayla Leeann Edge; and great granddaughter: Abbie Nicholle Brooks. There are many loving friends that helped fulfill the decades of “Mama Jo’s” life that she cherishes and holds deeply in her soul.
