Lee Slagle, 93, of Asheville, went home to be with our Lord, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Myrle Parrish Slagle and a grandson: Roger F. Slagle and wife Jamie all of Asheville, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Vickie Slagle Fortune in 2013 as well as all his sisters and brothers. Lee served his country proudly as a World War II U. S. Army Veteran in Europe. He was born in the Red Hill Community of Mitchell County, to the late Jake and Bessie Garland Slagle, lived in Westminster, Maryland after World War II, but lived most of his life in Burnsville. He was a former Police Chief for the Town of Spruce Pine, owned and operated Lil” Smoky Drive-in and the Amberjack Steak and Seafood Restaurant in Burnsville, and finally retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier in 1985, after twenty years of service. Lee was a member of West Burnsville Baptist Church, where he was active as a greeter and usher. He enjoyed square dancing, bowling, and raising cattle and Walker Hounds on his small farm in Burnsville. Lee was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and fellowship with those around him. He will be missed, but left a lasting presence with all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, March 23, 2018 in Red Hill Baptist Church. Revs. Randy Wise and Ricky Ray will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church.
