Lois Gortney Hughes, age 75, of Lenoir, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2017 at Sherrills Ford Hospice House. She was born June 27, 1942 in Yancey County to the late Paul Gortney and Edith Burleson Wike. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fate Hughes; and sisters, Mary-Sue Gortney, Martha-Ann Gortney, and Helen Borkowski.
Mrs. Hughes was a retired pharmacy technician for Kerr Drug and was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitnel.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Huggins and husband Joe of Lenoir; one brother, Glenn Gortney and wife Nancy of Burnsville, NC; three sisters, Leona Paterson and husband Jerry of Greensboro, Carolyn Laws and husband Delmar of Burnsville, and Nancy Radford and husband Ross of Asheville; and two grandchildren, Thomas Huggins and Jackson Huggins, both of Lenoir.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Day 3 Church conducted by Rev. Daryl Triplett and Rev. Lynn Parsons.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
