Paul Edward Burge, 70, of Burnsville, passed away  Sunday, September 3, 2017 at his home.  A native of West Virginia, he was the son of the late George and Helen Beavers Burge.  He was also preceded in death by a sister: Delores Justice. Paul was the director of Social Services in Yancey County from 1986-1998 and director of Social Services in Burke County, retiring in 2004. He was a US Air Force Veteran. 

Surviving are a son: Ross Burge and wife Telina; daughter: Jody and husband Tommy Buchanan; 2 sisters: Orphia Burge and Ruth Long; 2 Brothers: J. D. Burge and James Burge; 5 grandchildren: Zachary and Avery Buchanan, Jordan Burge, Victoria Burge, Brenan Burge and a great granddaughter: Carlyee Burge.

A memorial Service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, September 9, 2017, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Joe Bennett, Yancey Hospice Chaplain, will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
