Warren Buchanan, Sr.

July 26, 1934 ~ April 9, 2017 (age 82)

Thomas Warren Buchanan, Sr., age 82, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 9, 2017.  Warren was born on July 26, 1934 in Bakersville, N.C. the son of the late Zeb and Bertie Wilson Buchanan.  He was also preceded in death by siblings Grace Ellis, Nell Young and Christine Young.

On December 25, 1955, he married the love of his life Maxie Gouge Buchanan; also surviving are a son: Thomas (Tommy) Warren Buchanan, Jr and wife Susan Pendley Buchanan, a grandson Thomas Warren Buchanan, III, and wife Amy Fitzgerald Buchanan; and, a beautiful little 6 weeks old great granddaughter: Evelyn Rey, all of Burnsville.  These survivors love him deeply, as well as his surviving sister, Emma Lee Sparks and brothers-in-law Joe Young and Sherwood Gouge.

Warren was active in the community, he was a generous, loving person. He attended Bowman High School in Bakersville, served in the U. S. Air Force, during the Korean War and has made his career in the Automobile Business.  He has been a Chrysler Corp. Dealer since 1968, starting in Bakersville and moving the company to Burnsville in 1985.

Warren was a Director of French Broad Electric Membership Corporation; serving the counties of Madison, Buncombe, Yancey, and Mitchell in NC and Unicoi and Cocke Counties in TN. He was also Director of Northwestern Bank in Bakersville, later the First Union Bank in Bakersville.  When he moved to Burnsville, he became a Director of the First Union Bank and later Director of First community Bank of Burnsville, when it opened.  Over the years he has been a member of the Lions Club, a Volunteer Fire Fighter of the Bankersville Fire Department and various other civic clubs.

Warren was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burnsville.

He loved his family and friends and loved to “shoot pool” with his competitive buddies, who sometimes played from midafternoon until after midnight.  He also enjoyed motorcycling and traveling. He was a very special person and was dearly loved.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Elderbrock will officiate. Burial will be in the Greene Young Cemetery in Bakersville. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 PM Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be employees of Buchanan & Young.
