RUBY WILSON

Ruby Lee Brinkley Wilson, daughter of David Hulon and Bertha Wright Brinkley, was born Nov. 6, 1929 in Burnsville, NC.  She died March 8, 2012 at her home in Bald Creek. Ruby is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Joe, Clyde, Jack, and Reece, and her sisters Marie Ball and Dorothy Robertson.

Ruby graduated from Burnsville High School, worked several years at Square D, and in Greensboro at Belks, Cone Hospital, and UNCG.  However, her real career was her family.

In 1949 Ruby married Ronald Earl Wilson.  Ron survives her along with their daughters Sharon Lynn Wilson and Julia Dawn Wyrick and her husband Bobby; grandchildren Cynthia Lynn and husband Steve Ayers, and Patricia Dawn Zimmerman; great grandchildren Ashland Patricia Jones, Dillon Thomas Jones, Brandon Ray Zimmerman, and Timothy Cole Zimmerman.  Additional survivors include her sister, Betty B. Robinson; sister-in-law, Peggy Brinkley; and members of the Wilson family: Beryl, Ruth, Jan, Margaret, and Deane, their spouses, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ruby fed and clothed her family.  A marvelous and creative cook, she had a kitchen that was always a wonder to the senses.  Her gifts with needle and thread, and imagination brought joy to the family. She was actively involved in the lives of the individuals in the family...a good listener who was always ready to share her perspective on their activities. She was an encourager who, one of the fellows said, could be tough and ornery...and generous, open and caring.  She was active in church and community, and she found a recreational and social outlet in playing bridge.

Ruby set a standard for never giving up.  Her optimism and energy carried her through many difficult illnesses. This last was no exception.  The family is deeply grateful to all the Hospice Staff who became part of her care family in these last days.  Their skill, compassion and understanding were invaluable to both Ruby and the family.  The ministry of the Bald Creek U. Methodist Church members has also been a practical and spiritual aid. The family suggests that gifts in Ruby's memory be made to the Bald Creek U. Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Nan Proffitt, 43 Beachwood Drive, Burnsville, NC 28714, or to Hospice of Yancey County, 856 George's Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.

We will celebrate Ruby’s life on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the Bald Creek United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be from 2-3 PM, followed by her memorial service at 3:00 PM.
