TAMMY GAYLE CERNIGLIA

Tammy Gayle Self (Woods) Cerniglia, 48, went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2015, from her long battle with breast cancer.  She was a Christian saved by the Grace of God!  She leaves behind her wonderful husband of 13 years:  Sam Cerniglia; 5 children:  Chasity Self, Gerry Woods, Nicole Cappiello, Stephanie and Justin Cerniglia; 6 grandchildren:  Kendall Marret, Kayleb Self, Arya Baldwin, Logan Kropf, Gabriel and Hailey Cerniglia; 4 aunts; 4 uncles; and, too many cousins to count.

 

She lived, laughed, and loved with her whole heart.  Her Father in heaven filled her with the joy of the Holy Spirit until He called her home.  From a cocoon transfer formed to a butterfly, her beautiful spirit will always be remembered!

 

A memorial service will be held at 4PM Saturday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Her husband and Pastor Charlie Carroway will officiate.

 

The family will receive friends from 2 until 4PM prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Yancey County, 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.

RANDALL LEE ROBINSON

Randall Lee Robinson, 57, of Asheville, North Carolina passed away at his home June 16, 2015.  He was a son of the late Harm Eugene (Gene) Robinson and Camilee Penland Robinson of Burnsville.  A native of Yancey County, Randall received a degree in Criminal Justice and then graduated from the North Carolina Highway Patrol Training Academy in 1979.  Throughout his life and past retirement from law enforcement, Randall was an avid hunter and enjoyed annual hunting trips to South Dakota with friends who shared his passion.  His family remembers him for his quick wit, spirit of adventure and the tenaciousness that allowed him to excel in many diverse endeavors.

 

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two sisters, Barbara J. Robinson and husband, Larry, of Asheville and Lisa D. Hall and husband, Johnny, of Burnsville; a brother, Terry E. Robinson and wife, Holly, of Durham, NC; a niece, Amanda Nicole Hall of Johnson City, TN; three nephews, Jonathan M. Robinson and wife, Kelly of Jacksonville, FL, Mark B. Robinson, and Benjiman P. Robinson and Serina of Burnsville; three great nephews, Ethan Michael Robinson of Jacksonville, FL, Jamason Cole and Jordan Brandon Robinson both of Burnsville; and a great niece, Ariella Robinson of Burnsville.

 

Funeral services will be held at 7 P.M. Friday, June 19, 2015 in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, June 20, 2015, in the Metcalf Cemetery on Horton Creek.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 PM Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.

ESTELLE AUSTIN

Estelle Austin, 88, formerly of Indian Creek, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015 at Mountain Ridge Health and Rehabilitation in Black Mountain.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Dud and Ora Wilson Austin.  She was also preceded in death by sisters:  Mary Edwards, Bergy Higgins, Alda Collins and Edrus Gentry; and grandchildren: Kimberly Peterson and Patrick Ray.  Estelle was a retired employee of Haven Heights Nursing Home.

Surviving are a son:  Roger Banks of Old Fort; two daughters:  Mary Lee Ray of Weaverville and Donna Gay Peterson of Winston Salem: grandchildren; Regina Ray, Angela Mosley, Jeremy Ray, Christopher Banks and Greg Peterson; and great grandchildren: Justin Watts, Jordan Mosley and Connor Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 7 P. M. Wednesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Nathan Wheeler will officiate.  A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon Thursday in the Academy Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 P. M. Wednesday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

CAROLINA HIGGINS GATES

Carolina Higgins Gates, 90, of Yancey County, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Brookside Rehabilitation & Care.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Winnie Higgins.  She was the wife of Bill Gates who died in 1997. Carolina was also preceded in death by a sister:  June Ledford; and brothers:  Arnold and Reubin Higgins.  She and Bill were former owners of Lil’ Smokys Restaurant and she also cooked at other restaurants.

 

Surviving are her son:  Ted Gates of Brunswick, ME; a step-daughter:  Cheryl Gates of Rockville, MD; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; a sister-in-law:  Louise Higgins of Burnsville; and, special nieces and nephews:  Pam, Melinda and Bobby.

 

Private services will be held at a later date.

TRULA ADKINS BRYANT

Trula Adkins Bryant, 91, of Jonesborough, TN, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Johnson City Medical Center.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late John and Etta Murphy Adkins and the wife of Roy Bryant who died in 1998.  She was also preceded in death by 2 sons:  Darius Bryant and Doyle Bryant; and a brother, Ernest Adkins.  She was of the Baptist faith.

 

Surviving are her daughter, Debbie Fletcher of West Palm Beach, FL; 2 sons:  Dennis and Willadean Bryant of Lenoir and Donald Bryant and Gail of Jonesborough; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the White Oak Flats Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

WILLIAM H. KRAUSE

William H. Krause went to be with the Lord peacefully on June 8, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was loved by so many and will be missed greatly.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, 3 children and 7 grandchildren.  A family service will be held at the Florida National VA Cemetery in Bushnell, at a later date.

HELEN AUSTIN

Helen Austin, 84, of Indian Creek, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Asheville Nursing and Rehab Center.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Doug and Myrtle Wallace Blankenship and the wife of Creed Austin who passed away in 1998.  She was also preceded in death by sisters:  Geraldine Ballew and Chloe Holcombe and brothers:  Ray and Gay Blankenship.  Helen was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church.

 

Surviving are her sons:  Bobby Austin and wife, Barbara, and J. D. Austin and wife, Debbie; daughters:  Betty McMahan and husband, Dennis, all of Burnsville and Shirley Sayles and husband, Owen, of Hendersonville; a sister:  Irene Austin of Morganton; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Pastor Philip Garland and Rev. Stacey Elkins will officiate.  A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday in the Robinson-Austin Cemetery on Indian Creek.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 PM Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

RONALD JOSEPH SCHAROLD

Ronald Joseph Scharold, 67, of Burnsville, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine.  A native of Kenton, Kentucky, he was a son of June Taylor Scharold of Burnsville and the late Ralph Scharold.  Ron was retired, having been an Electrical Supervisor.

 

Surviving in addition to his mother, are a brother, Richard Scharold of Burnsville; and a sister, Linda Polaske of Hartwell, Georgia.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Campbell will officiate.   Burial will be in Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from Noon until 1 PM Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

THELMA ALLO PHILLIPS

Thelma Allo Phillips, 92, of the Ramseytown Community of Yancey County, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at Madison Health and Rehabilitation.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Perry and Hattie Miller Adkins, and the wife of Rev. Niram Phillips, who passed away in 1986.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Rev. Bennie Phillips, 4 sisters and 4 brothers.

Surviving are a daughter: Iva Lee ‘Tootsie’ Ricker and husband John of Shelby; a son: Kenneth Phillips and wife Shirley of Erwin, TN:  5 grandchildren: Emily ‘Bunny’ Edwards and husband Luke of Mars Hill; Rev. Raymond Phillips and wife Amanda of Burnsville; Rhonda McNabb and husband Sammy and Bryan Phillips and wife Amanda, all of Erwin; and Wendy Grace Ricker of Shelby; 4 great grandchildren; Drew, Jacob, Naomi and Ireland and a daughter-in-law: Kaye Phillips Holcombe of Burnsville.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, in Byrd’s Chapel Baptist Church, of which she was a member.  Her grandson Rev. Raymond Phillips will officiate.  Burial will be in the Henry Howard Cemetery on Piney Hill.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, and at other times will be at the home of Kaye Phillips Holcombe on Piney Hill.

DONNELLE WILLIAMSON

Donnelle Young Williamson, 46, of Hickory Springs Road, went home Thursday, May 28, 2015, at her home.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Elizabeth Patton Young.  She was also preceded in death by a sister:  Sally Williams.  She and her husband, Eric, owned and operated Custom Tunz-n-Tint in Burnsville.  Donnelle had many joys in life, but her greatest was her grandchild.

 

Surviving are her lifelong friend of 40 years and husband of 27 years:  Eric Williamson; children:  Donald Nicholas “Nicky” Young and fiancée, Tina Ray, and Erica Kaye Williamson and fiancé, D. J. Forbes, all of Burnsville; 2 granddaughters:  Nevaeh and Morgan, and a grandson due in July; 2 sisters:  Patsy Henson of Burnsville and Rowena Hutchinson of Asheville; and, special friends:  Aunt Gwendolyn Shade, Thanna Davis, Sylvia Tolbert, Renee Williamson and Kim Young.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. James Williamson will officiate.  Burial will be in the Marietta Atkins Cemetery, on Green Mountain Drive.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times the family will be at the home of George Williamson in Burnsville.
