ANISE BAILEY

Anise Silvers Bailey, 78, of the Higgins Community went to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at St. Josephs Hospital in Asheville.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Ruby Willis Silvers and the wife of Crate Bailey who died in 2008.  She was also preceded in death by brothers:  J. S. and Theodore Silvers.  Anise was a member of Higgins Free Will Baptist Church.  She loved working in her garden, flowers and cooking for those in her community and church. 

 

Surviving are a daughter:  Judie Bailey Miller of Burnsville; sons:  Harlan Bailey and wife, Connie, of Mars Hill, Walter Bailey and wife, Kristi, of Burnsville; grandchildren:  Abbey Bailey of Burnsville and Dale Bailey of Mars Hill; 3 sisters:  Janet Robinson of Fletcher, Marie Robinson of Winter Haven, FL and Opal Blevins of Burnsville; a brother:  Lloyd Silvers of Burnsville and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 8 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Revs. Denny Wilson and Junior Peterson will officiate.  A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Friday in the Higgins Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.

CARSIE BOONE

Carsie Boone, 85, of Georges Fork, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 in Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late John and Beatrice Hollifield Boone.  She was also preceded in death by Lawrence Silver; a brother:  Landon Boone; 5 sisters:  Madge Henson, Lydie McCrackin, Kathleen Harris, Evangeline Carroll and Jenette Grindstaff.  She was a retired employee of Ellen Knitting Mills.  She was a loving Aunt and special friend to those who knew her.

 

Surviving are nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Steve Penland will officiate.  Burial will be in the Edge Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral Home. 

 

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Yancey County for the care given to Mrs. Boone.

JACK L. WILSON, SR.

Jack L. Wilson, Sr., 79, of Rock Creek Road passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late George and Bertie Ledford Wilson.  He was also preceded in death by sons:  Ronnie and Jack L. Wilson, Jr. 

 

Surviving are his wife of 59 years:  Maphrie Chrisawn Wilson; children:  Ricky Wilson and wife, Diann, of Conover, Debbie McCartha of Old Fort, Larry Wilson and wife, Kim, and Dennis Wilson of Burnsville; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

 

Funeral services will be held at 8 PM Friday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 10 AM Saturday in the Robinson Cemetery on Rock Creek.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.

ALLIE GRACE RENFRO

Allie Grace Renfro, 94, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away December 3, 2012 at Forsyth Hospital.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Higgins Sr. and Martha Jane (Adkins) Higgins, and the wife of Joe Renfro who died in 1987.  She was also preceded in death by a sister: Minnie Low Webb; and three brothers: Ned, Ted, and Robert Jr. Higgins.  She was a homemaker in the Bald Creek community, and moved to Winston-Salem at retirement where she attended Jonestown Baptist Church.

 

Surviving are a daughter:  Joanne Guthrie; two sons:  Harold (Judy) Renfro and John (Paula) Renfro; two sisters: Hettie Price, and Betty Fox; four grandchildren:  Stacy Guthrie, Amanda Palmer, Brian Renfro, and Matthew Renfro; four great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville NC.  Rev. Denver Styles will officiate.  Burial will be in the Bob Higgins Family Cemetery. 

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

ROBERT "BOB" MCKINNEY

Robert “Bob” McKinney, 78, of Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, November 30, 2012 at John F. Keever, Jr., Solace Center.  A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Albert and Ann Autrey McKinney.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles McKinney.  He was a member of Deyton Bend United Methodist Church.  Bob retired from the Department of Corrections after 30 years and was also a US Air Force Veteran.

 

Surviving are his wife of 52 years:  Stella Deyton McKinney; a son:  Barry McKinney and wife, April, one loving granddaughter:  Taylor McKinney all of Green Mountain; 2 brothers:  Bill McKinney and wife, Annette, and Larry McKinney and wife, Susan; sister-in-law:  Shirley McKinney; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Jody Campbell will officiate.

 

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

BEN LEE HENSLEY

Ben Lee Hensley, 79, of Burnsville went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at his home.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Alvin and Avis Smith Hensley.  Ben was a self-employed TV and appliance repairman.  He was a member of Burnsville Lodge No. 717 AF & AM, a retired member of Burnsville Volunteer Fire Dept., loving husband, father, and

D-Daddy to his grandchildren.

 

Surviving are his wife of 58 years:  Earlene Bryan Hensley; a daughter:  Connie Taylor and husband, Keith, of Marion; a son:  Bryan Hensley and wife, Lynn, of Burnsville; 3 grandchildren:  Tabatha Edwards of Marion, Hannah and Megan Hensley of Burnsville; 3 great grandchildren:  Isaac Robinette, Micah Robinette and Adam Maynor of Marion; a sister:  Elaine Boone of Burnsville and a brother:  Jimmy Hensley of Granite Falls.

           

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday in the First Baptist Church of Burnsville of which he was a member.  Rev. Tommy James will officiate.  Burial will be in the Cane River Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

MICHAEL COOPER

Michael Cooper, 38, of Asheville, passed away Thursday November 22, 2012.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of Harold Dean and Wilma Proffitt Cooper of Burnsville.

 

Surviving in addition to his parents are a daughter: Stephanie Lynn Cooper of Ocala, FL; two sons: Michael Dean Cooper,  of Ocala and Cale Pence of Dayton, OH; a sister: Vickie Diane Cooper of Marion and two brothers: Johnny Cooper of Marion and Rodger Cooper of Summerset, KY.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 A. M. Saturday, December 1, 2012 in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.

 

 Burial will be in the Cooper Family Cemetery on Ferguson Hill.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

CLARENCE ALLEN CAMPBELL

Clarence Allen Campbell, 60, of the Blue Rock Community, Burnsville, left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.   A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Warren and Gladys Ledford Campbell of the Buladean Community.  He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Teresa Campbell.   An employee of Unimin Corporation, Red Hill, he was a member of Blue Rock Baptist Church, a Past Master of Bakersville  Lodge No. 357, AF & AM  and a current member of Burnsville Lodge No. 717, AF & AM whose lodge brethren will serve as pallbearers.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years:  Carolyn Webb Campbell; a son: Steven Joseph Campbell and wife, Tammee, of Bakersville; a step son:  Dwayne Ballew and wife, Mandy, of Burnsville; a step daughter: Christy Bryant and husband, Robert, of Bakersville; five grandchildren: Cody and Katie Bryant, Whitney, Nicholas and Macie Ballew; 2 brothers: Rev. Bobby Campbell and wife, Linda, of Unicoi, TN and Roger Campbell and wife, Janice, of Bakersville; a sister: Debbie Fann and husband, Joe, of Watkinsville, GA; and four nephews: Lee and Dale Campbell, Travis and Blake Parker.

 

Funeral services will be held at 8 P.M. Saturday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Pastor Kenneth Forbes and Rev. Adam Brewer will officiate.    Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Sunday in the Blue Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

MILDRED HUNTER

Mildred Wallin Hunter, 87, of Cane River Church Road, Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 22, 2012 at the Brian Center of Weaverville with her beloved son Larry by her side.  A native of Mars Hill, she was a daughter of the late Hubert and Ellen Chandler Wallin, and the wife of Kenneth Hunter who died in 2006.  Mildred retired after 30 years of service as a teacher with the Buncombe and Yancey County school systems.

 

Surviving are her son:  Larry Hunter and Brenda of Burnsville; 2 sisters:  Wilma Buckner of Weaverville, and Darlene Holcombe of Hickory; a brother:  Harold Wallin of Mars Hill; several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Pastor Jerry Shelton will officiate.  Burial will be in the Cane River Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

 

FLORENCE MCMAHAN

Florence McMahan, 87, of Burnsville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Yancey House Assisted Living.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Richmond and Ella Ledford Anglin and the wife of Arnold McMahan who died in 2005.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Virgis Anglin.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Myrna Thomas and husband, Ronald, of Green Mountain; 4 grandchildren:  Tim Thomas of Burnsville, Jeff Thomas of Clintwood, VA, Crystal Silver of Green Mountain and Sarah Myers of Burnsville; and 5 great grandchildren:  Derrick and Jenna Thomas, Brook Silver, Miriam and Daniel Myers.

 

Private graveside services will be held at 11 AM Friday in the Holcombe Cemetery.
