It is with great sadness that we announce that Charles Frederick Wiehrs, Jr. peacefully passed away at age 86 on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, in Asheville, NC. A native of Savannah, Georgia he was a son of the late Charles and Dorothy Wiehrs. He was also preceded in death by a sister: Patti Wiehrs Moore (James M.). Charles was raised in Tampa, Florida, and attended Wilson and Plant High School. He attended Sewanee Military Academy and University of South in Tennessee. Charles graduated from L.S.U. School of Banking. His career in banking was with First Florida Banks, where he was Senior Vice President when he retired. He had a great love of all sports and officiated football for 29 years with W.C.O.A. Charlie spent many happy hours playing golf at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club in Tampa and Mt. Mitchell Golf Club in North Carolina. His love of all dogs was reflected in his support of adoption of retired racing greyhounds.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years: Joan Rowe Wiehrs; loving daughters: Cindy Wiehrs Orr (Hank) and Lynda Wiehrs Brundage (Danny); grandchildren: Michael Brundage (Megan), Austin Brundage and Kate Orr Brundage; sisters-in-law: Judy Tucker, Marilou Pfingsten and Chris Rowe. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Burnsville, of which he was a member, at 2PM Saturday, November 10, 2018. Rev. Steve Elderbrock will officiate.
