Mary Louise Black Silcox, 85, of Burnsville, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Mountain Manor Assisted Living after a 6-1/2 year battle with Alzheimers. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Ephraim and Bertha Styles Black. She was the wife of Edward Wayne Silcox who died in 2000. She was also preceded in death by sisters: Helen Derby, Anne Penland, Grace Rogers and Margarett Deyton; and brothers: Hardy, Charles, John, Luther and Ralph Black. She retired from Detroit Mutual Insurance Company and after retirement returned to Burnsville in 2001.
Surviving are sisters: Dorothy Deyton of Burnsville and Virginia Joines of Newark, DE; and several nieces and nephews, great and great great, whom she loved very dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2PM Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. James Howell will officiate. Burial will follow in Holcombe Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
A reception will follow at Cane River Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
