Roy Lee Anglin, 75, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Memorial Mission Hospital.  He was born in Burnsville, NC, and was a life-long resident of Yancey County.  He was a member of Covy Rock Freewill Baptist Church and was the son of the late Cecil R. and Grace Allen Anglin.

Roy Lee was married to his high school sweetheart, and the love of his life, Charlotte Edwards Anglin for fifty-eight years, and while he was known for his career as an educator, he will be remembered by those closest to him as the best husband, father, and grandfather anyone could ever ask for, as there wasn’t anything “Papa” wouldn’t do for his family.

Roy Lee served the children of Yancey County Schools for thirty-seven years as a much loved and respected teacher and principal.    He graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1965, and began his teaching career that same year.  In the early 70s, he earned his graduate degree, a Master of School Administration, from Western Carolina University, and was a middle and elementary school principal for many years, until his retirement in 2002.  He was Chairman of the Democrat Party in Yancey County in the early ‘80s, and played an active role in state and local politics all of his adult life.

He was an expert on local history and genealogy, and was a master storyteller, but his favorite pastime was fishing.  No matter if it was in a local creek or off the shores of Belize, he loved nothing more than to go fishing with long-time friends, his daughters when they were young, his sons-in law, and in later years, his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Edwards Anglin of their home in Green Mountain, NC, children, Angelia Anglin of Green Mountain, NC, Michelle Anglin Rider (James) of Denmark, Wisconsin, grandchildren, Kellen McCort of Green Mountain, NC, Joshua Rider, Katherine Rider, and Daniel Rider of Denmark, Wisconsin, a brother, Jim Anglin (Ellen) of Burnsville, NC, and a sister, Genella Anglin Huskins (Bob) of Spruce Pine, NC.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Monday, March 4, 2019, at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm, after the receiving of friends in the Chapel at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home, with Reverend Marvin Hensley and Reverend Shane Cassida officiating.  Graveside services will be held at the Riddle-Deyton Cemetery in Green Mountain, NC at 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
