Shelba Jean Boone Stanley, 73, returned to her heavenly home Thursday, July 18, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer at Care Partners Solace Center in Asheville.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Warner and Ethel Price Boone.  She was also preceded in death by her husband:  William E. Stanley, who passed away in 2014; and a sister-in-law:  Wilma Boone.  Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle, and ultimately gave her God’s peace.  Shelba, along with her husband, were active members of West Burnsville Baptist Church for many years.  Traveling was a big part of their lives.  She was an extremely hard working lady.  Shelba retired from Avondale Mills.  She had a love of reading.  Shelba was a huge Carolina Panthers football fan.

Surviving are Shelba’s only son:  Thomas Michael Boone and wife, Jennifer Hughes Boone; her only granddaughter:  Morganne Patricia Boone; and a great granddaughter:  Mikenlee; sisters:  Etta Vee Boone, Fern Whitson and Brenda Ledford and husband, Gene, all of Burnsville; brothers:  Brook Boone and wife, Bobbie, of Greensboro, and Donald Boone of Spruce Pine; 2 nieces:  Tamara Ledford King and husband, Jeff, of Burnsville and Jacqueline Boone of Belgium;  a nephew:  Brent Ledford and wife, Heather, of Burnsville; and 5 great nephews..

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Ricky Ray will officiate.  Burial will be in the Hutchins/Boone Cemetery on Bear Wallow Road.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jeff, Josh and Caleb King, Brandon Buchanan, Jerry Burleson and Jim Deaton.  J. D. Lang and Lawrence Collins will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to extend a very heart felt thank you to the phenomenal Hospice nursing staff, who took amazing care of Shelba, Amy, Anita, Susie and all the wonderful CNAs.
